The soft-spoken leader began her journey into the political world in 2013 after the 2010 constitution reforms included a gubernatorial docket. Despite joining politics in 2013, Achani didn’t jump into seeking an elective position. Instead, she decided to join hands with someone who had political experience and that was none other than Salim Mvurya.

Achani and Mvurya first vied for the gubernatorial seat on an ODM ticket. At that time Kwale county was one of ODM’s strongholds and earning a ticket meant their chance of clinching power was higher.

However, after one term Mvurya decided to decamp the ODM camp and joined the Jubilee party which at that time was headed by Hon. Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto. Achani being a loyal partner, followed her boss to Jubilee camp and stood by him. The two had done a recommendable job in their first term so the Kwale people didn’t mind the party and went on to reward them with a new term.
