Fatuma Achani Age and Place of Birth
Fatuma was born in 1984 in Kwalw County, Kenya
Fatuma began her education at Kingwede Primary School in the coastal region. She later joined the famous Mama Ngina girls in Mombasa county. She has passed her secondary level and she enrolled at Moi University where she pursued a Bachelor of Law. After that, she proceeded to the Kenya School of Law for a diploma.
Fatuma Achani Career
Achani is an experienced lawyer who managed to inch her way into the political podium back in 2013 joining hand with Salim Mvurya. As a certified lawyer, she has worked with numerous law firms and several human rights organizations such as the Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) Kenya.
The soft-spoken leader began her journey into the political world in 2013 after the 2010 constitution reforms included a gubernatorial docket. Despite joining politics in 2013, Achani didn’t jump into seeking an elective position. Instead, she decided to join hands with someone who had political experience and that was none other than Salim Mvurya.
Achani and Mvurya first vied for the gubernatorial seat on an ODM ticket. At that time Kwale county was one of ODM’s strongholds and earning a ticket meant their chance of clinching power was higher.
However, after one term Mvurya decided to decamp the ODM camp and joined the Jubilee party which at that time was headed by Hon. Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto. Achani being a loyal partner, followed her boss to Jubilee camp and stood by him. The two had done a recommendable job in their first term so the Kwale people didn’t mind the party and went on to reward them with a new term.
Unlike many governors who have fallen apart with their deputies due to power, Achani was always loyal to his master, and not at once did she try to outshine her master. The reward for her loyalty was also paid by loyalty from her boss.
After Mvurya served his two terms as required by the law, she handed the baton to his deputy. The two then walked another path with Mvurya working hard to ensure his deputy emerged the winner of the male-dominated race.
However, this time around the two decamped again from the Jubilee party to United Democratic Alliance (UDA). Under the UDA ticket, Achani was competing in a tight race against some of the best politicians including, Hamadi Boga of ODM, Chirau Ali Mwakwere of Wiper part, and Lung’azi Chai of PAA.
The firm boss lady earned 59,674 votes beating her close competitor with over five thousand votes to become the new Kwale governor. After her victory, she took the oath of office on 25th August 2022 and she is ready to serve the people of Kwale County.
