KCB F.C, Kenya Commercial Bank is one of the financial institutions in Kenya that has given sports the right place within their organization. Apart from the football club that they are well known for, Kenya Commercial Bank has extended its sports arm and ventured into other sports like Rugby which was the first sports club to be founded in 1983 and it has been conquering the Kenyan rugby league for a while. Other sports include Volleyball and Basketball, the basketball docket of the institution has both gender teams, men and women.

KCB F.C alias ‘Sidwedwe’ is a professional football club participating in the Kenya Premier League, the club joins a group of teams that are based in Kenya’s capital city, Nairobi. Being an organization based-club it has managed to disentangle the tribal rule of players and instead, they have managed to recruit every talented player to their squad.

The club was established in 1993 by the Kenya Commercial Bank following the success of the rugby team. Three years later in 1996, the club clinched its first trophy after it won the Nairobi Provincial League.

Following the win, KCB was promoted to the Nationwide League where they played for two years before they received their first call to join the top-tier league, Kenya Premier League.  From 1998, the club managed to remain in the top-tier league for more than 17 years before they faced the wrath of relegation at the end of the 2015 season.

For three seasons the club played in the National Super League before reclaiming its spot in the premier league at the end of the 2018/19 season. KCB kicked off the 2019/20 season in the top-tier league and currently, their main focus is to beat the chances of getting relegated again. As of the 2021/22 season, the bankers sealed the season in position seven with 46 points.

The club is owned and managed by one of the biggest financial institutions in Kenya, Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB). As an organization club, it’s fully funded by the institute and in return, the club carries the institute brand in its jersey.

Currently, the team is being headed by Zedekiah Zico Otieno, a very able coach who has served as the coach of the Kenya national football team in an acting capacity before Francis Kimanzi took over. The Gor Mahia legend was part of the squad that represented Kenya in the 1994 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches.

As a football manager, he has a wealth of experience exceeding a decade, having coached several local teams including Gor Mahia and Sony Sugar. In July 2019, he was appointed to lead Sidwedwe as they are well known after their promotion to the top-tier league.

KCB F.C Achievements

The first trophy they bagged was the Nairobi provincial cup in 1998 which led to their promotion. Since then they have won only one trophy, the Kenyan Transparency Cup in 2004. Despite being in existence for 29 years the club has never won the league title but they are really working hard towards that.

Home Stadium and Shirt

The bankers use the Nairobi City Stadium, Nairobi as their home ground, the stadium has a capacity worth 15,000. Green is the primary color of the Kenya Commercial Bank and the same goes for the team’s uniforms.
