1. Kenyatta University

Kenyatta University offers a bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering (BME) in the school of Engineering and Technology. The course takes 5 years to complete and is offered at the university’s main campus in Kahawa.

To be eligible for admission to the Undergraduate program, a prospective candidate must meet the following minimum requirements: KCSE or equivalent mean grade of C+ (Plus) with at least C+ (Plus) or equivalent in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and English. (Geography is an added bonus.)

2. Mount Kenya University

It is known to be among the best institutions offering medical courses all over Kenya. The university offers a diploma in Medical Engineering. The entry requirements include at least KCSE mean C Plain &; C Plain in Chemistry and at least two of the following; Maths, Physics, and Geography.

In addition, a diploma from a recognized institution is accepted for admission. An amount of Ksh 23,550 is charged per trimester. The program takes 3 years to complete.

3. Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC)

KMTC is a state-operated college specializing in teaching medical programs in the country. Medical engineering is one of the courses taught at the college.

You must meet the following minimum requirements to enroll in this Course: C in KCSE, a C in English or Kiswahili, Mathematics, and Physics/Physical Sciences. C- in any of the following areas: Biology/Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Electricity, Metal Work, and Technical Drawing.

The fee payable for this program is Ksh 60,000 per semester and ksh 120,000 per academic year. The program takes 3 years to complete.

4. Technical University of Mombasa 

Located in Tudor, Mombasa, The university offers Bachelor’s degree program in medical engineering. To be eligible for admission, a candidate must have scored KCSE Mean Grade C+ (Plus) with C+ (Plus) in Mathematics, English/Kiswahili, Physics, or Physical Sciences

In addition, a KNEC-TEP/TUM Diploma in Medical Engineering or Equivalent qualification from an accredited institution recognized by the TUM senate is acceptable. The program takes four years to complete.

5. Kirinyaga University

Located in Kirinyaga county, the institution offers only Bachelor’s degree in medical engineering that takes 4 years to complete.

To be admitted to the program, a candidate must have a mean grade of C+ at KCSE, a C+ in English/Kiswahili, a C+ in Biology/biological science, a C+ in physics/Chemistry, and a C+ in Mathematics. The program takes 8 semesters to complete with 2 semesters in each academic year.

6. Tricent School of Medical and health 

The medical training institution offers only a diploma in medical engineering. To qualify for admission, a candidate must have attained a minimum of C in KCSE and a C in either Kiswahili or English, a C in Chemistry/Physics, and a C in one of cluster three subjects.

7. Institute of Applied Science, Eldoret Campus

A diploma in medical engineering is offered at the institution’s Eldoret Campus. Entry requirements include a KCSE mean grade of C-. Fees payable per semester is Ksh 21,000 and the program takes 3 years to complete.

8. Kisiwa Technical Training Institute, Bungoma

The college, which is based in Bungoma offers a diploma in medical engineering. Only a KCSE mean grade of C- is required to be enrolled into the program, which takes 3 years to complete.

9. Mediheal Hospital Medical Training 

The school which specializes in training medical practitioners offers a diploma in medical engineering. Admission requirements include a minimum of C in KCSE and a C in either Kiswahili/English, biology/bio, Physics/Mathematics. The study period takes three years and an amount of 27,000 shillings is paid per semester.

10. Thika School of Medical and Health Sciences

The Thika-based college offers a variety of medical courses among them a diploma in medical engineering. Admission requirements for this course include a C- in KCSE and a minimum of C- in biology/physics and mathematics.
