Belio Kipsang is a prominent academician who has served in the education sector for years. Currently, he’s serving as the permanent secretary for education. His face has been more popular in matters concerning education serving in different administrations.
Belio is described chiefly as a man of few words as he only talks when necessary, his presence is mainly felt during exam periods or teacher’s strikers. The academic man has risen through the ranks in the public sector from a common board member to one of the best principal secretaries in the country. He has overseen the transition of the education system from 8-4-4 to CBC, during Uhuru’s administration.

Kipsang attended Kapsabet Boys High School where he performed excellently and gained the grades to join the University of Nairobi. He graduated from the institution with Bachelors’s (Honors) Degree in Education specializing in Business and Economics.
After acquiring his Bachelor’s degree he went back for his Master of Arts degree in Economics from the same institution. After that, he decided to go further and acquire his Ph.D. Degree in Education from the Catholic University of Eastern Africa.
Career
Before joining the education sector, Kipsang served in the Coffee Development Fund. He later moved to the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) which is under the ministry of education. During his tenure in this sector, he was always a top performer and most of his colleagues described him as a humble and ever-ready person not leaving being shy behind.
Following his neat track record in the ministry, he was promoted to principal secretary in the ministry of education by H.E Uhuru Kenyatta in 2013. His name rose o prominence when Fred Matiangi took over the ministry in 2015 and Belio served hand in hand with the CS as they streamlined the ministry which had unending problems.
In 2020, most of the people around him were promoted to other positions but he ended up retaining his position since he had proven beyond reasonable doubt that he was made for the job.
Having served in that capacity for more than a decade, Kipsang has served under strict CSs including Prof, Jacob Kaimenyi, Fred Matiangi, Amina Mohammed, George Maghoha, and now the current CS Ezekiel Machogu.
He was one of the leaders who played huge a role in the transition of the Kenyan education system that is still ongoing. He recently, announced that the junior secondaries will be domiciled in primary schools.
Additionally, he’s an associate member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners and also doubles up as a member of the Institute of Directors of Kenya.
