Alliance Girls’ High School KCSE Results

Alliance Girls High School is a boarding girls’ public high school ranking on a national level, formerly it is known as African Girls High School. The school is based in Kikuyu, Kiambu County sitting on 71 acres of land, a walking distance to their brother school Alliance High School.

The girls’ school was founded in 1948 by the Alliance of Protestant Missions, becoming the first institution of higher education to offer education to the African girl child. At the time only Kenya High was offering education to only girls but they were only admitting European girls at the time.

The school’s first admission was on the 28th of February 1948 when they enrolled 10 students from different provinces around the country.  Initially, few girls had already been admitted at Alliance High School which is a boys’ school.

Being at a national level and one of the top-performing schools in Kenya, admission is highly competitive. The school only admits top students who have higher marks in the Kenya Certificate of Primary School. In 2015, it broke the record after it received 156,347 applications becoming the most applied national school that year.

AGHS as is well known has a reputable record in terms of performance, in 2011 the school topped all the girls’ schools and went on to rank 3rd in all countrywide. The school has some of the notable women leaders in the community including one of the most distinguished politicians, Charity Ngilu, and the former First Lady the late Lucy Kibaki.

Other notable alumnae include Betty Gikonyo, a pediatric cardiologist and a health professional. Margaret Ogola one of the best writers in the country, Sally Kosgei, Nyiva Mwenda, Effie Owuor, and many others.
