Kenyan politician Soipan Tuya is a United Republican Party (URP) member and the woman representative for the county of Narok.
She has worked as a United Nations Volunteer Specialist for USAID, Kituo cha Sheria, and the previous Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, among other government and civil society groups.
On September 27, 2022, President William Ruto named Soipan Tuya as the cabinet secretary for Environment and Forestry. Her nomination will be submitted to the government for final approval.
Tuya takes over for his Kajiado tribesman and former CS Keriako Tobiko. In doing so, she makes history as the first Maa woman in the Kenyan cabinet.

Soipan Tuya is the daughter of the former Member of Parliament for Narok South. Her biggest inspiration is her father, who was the only one of 15 siblings to attend school and subsequently become a teacher and a member of the national legislature.

Hon. Soipan attended her high school education at Kenya High School between 1995 to 1998, when she sat for her Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education examinations. Later in 1999, she enrolled and graduated with a degree in Bachelor of Laws from the University of Nairobi 2002. Later in 2010 earned her Masters of Law (LLM) in International Sustainable Development from the University of Washington, USA.
Hon. Soipan Tuya has served as a United Nations Volunteer Specialist for numerous government and civil society groups, including the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Kituo cha Sheria, and the previous Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs.
In 2013, the honorable Soipan Tuya was selected from a non-governmental organization and elected as a woman representative. When Patricia Parsitau passed away two months before the election, she assumed her political position and inherited her supporters.
Having an interest in politics, she prepared for this by working at the grassroots level to help women more. She went on to win the Women Representative elections by a landslide after overcoming age-based prejudice and discrimination.
Hon. Soipan leads the Parliamentary Implementation Committee. She plans to advocate for legislation that improves conflict procedures so that judicial remedy may resolve land and family problems in a gender-sensitive manner.
Appointment as Cabinet Secretary
After being nominated and sworn in as a senator, President William Ruto named her on September 27, 2022, as cabinet secretary of the Environment in his government. She is one of the seven women nominated as members of the cabinet out of the 22 positions.
