Mike Njenga is a veteran journalist with a  wealth of experience exceeding 15 years in the media industry. Currently, he works with the biggest media house in East Africa, Royal Media Services on Inooro Tv, a vernacular station as a news anchor and a host.

Initially, he was working for their flagship station, Citizen Tv serving as a news anchor as well as a reporter. The journalist rose to fame in 2011 when he covered the Somali war as a Senior reporter alongside Job Mwaura.

Away from the media industry, Mike is also a known businessman who has invested in different sectors from farming to hospitality.

Everyone has a story behind his/her successful journey, some are sad and some are interesting. For Mike, it was not that interesting as he faced humiliation due to lack of something in his pockets.

Before fame he recalled one incident where he was humiliated by his pastor for wearing open shoes while on the pulpit. According to him,  he was broke to a point he couldn’t afford a pair of shoes and he had to borrow his cousin’s open shoes to attend a church service.

At the time he was working as a sound guy in that church. After a period of suffering, God eventually opened doors and lifted him to another level.

Mike got his first job at Eagles Creation working as a production manager in audio as well as video. He was later hired by TBN Family media as a radio presenter.

Through hard work and determination, he was promoted to a higher position and served as the Head of Radio. During his stint at TBN, he hosted different shows such as Rock Solid as well a breakfast show, and a political show.

In addition, he also hosted a weekend show including the Top 20 countdown which was aired on Sunday morning. He also hosted Real Vibes, a reggae show, and another one dubbed Relax that aired on Sunday’s afternoon.

After several years of working at the media house, he was hired by Royal Media where his star shone beyond limits and his name became a household name in the media industry. With Royal Media, he worked on Citizen as a news anchor as well as a reporter.

As an anchor, he hosted the live bulletin, Live at 4, and later elevated to presenting the 9p.m news alongside a veteran journalist Catherine Kasavuli.

Mike was later transferred to the business center working beside Terryanne Chebet. During the war against Al Shabab in Somali, Citizen Tv entrusted him with the coverage sending him alongside his team to the battlefield.

In the story dubbed ‘Citizen’s TV Somali’s Back Story,’ the journalist shows the tough life they underwent with his team to make sure Kenyans were updated with all the happenings in Somalia.

Currently, he works at Citizen’s sister station Inooro Tv and Radia as a news anchor and host. As a host, he deals mostly with politics and current affairs.
