Kariobangi Sharks FC players; Slums of Kariobangi are well known as a crime hub, however, in the football world, Kariobangi is a hub for the best footballer in the country.

Kariobangi Sharks FC alias Sharks or K.Sharks is a perfect example of a slum-founded team. The club began from the lower division league and inched all the way to Kenya’s Premier League.

Kariobango being a hot spot when it comes to crime, most youths usually opt to channel their focus on sports and especially football to avoid being caught up on the wrong side of the law.

Prior to the formation of the club, street footballers used to gather at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Kariobangi.  Most of them gathered during the evening hours and mostly on weekends.

The boys would convert the church’s basketball court to a football pitch with most of them being barefooted with worn-out balls, with mismatched patterns.

The boys were later discovered by the former FKF president Nick Mendwa who at the time was doing other things. Mendwa believed in the boys and natured them all the way to the premier league.

Since their inception, the ‘Sharksmen’ have been exhibiting imposing performances and avoiding relegation by all means possible. In the recently concluded season 2020-21 season, the K.Sharks sealed the season with 48 points in position five behind AFC Leopards.

Kariobangi Sharks FC Player’s Salaries

Kariobangi Sharks is among the well-paying teams in Kenya with a monthly wage bill exceeding 3.2 million. The clubs fall under the category of top flight teams behind the likes of Gor Mahia, AFC Leopard, Sofapaka, and Tusker.

According to reports, Sharkmen earn an approximate salary of Kes 50k to 70K per month with allowances for wins and draws.
