The government has built institutions that offer various courses in the medical field and here are some of the institutions that offer Medical Laboratory Science both at a higher level and undergraduate level.

Also, there are numerous privately owned medical training institutions that offer the same training though more costly than public ones.

Medical Laboratory Science is one of the medical courses widely taught in Kenya. A medical laboratory scientist or clinical laboratory scientist or medical technologist is a medic who performs diagnostic testing of blood and body fluids in clinical laboratories. The tests can be done upon instructions from a doctor or on voluntary basis.

1. Kenyatta University (KU)

The institution is located in Nairobi along Thika Super Highway, Kahawa. It offers a four-year degree program in medical laboratory science.

For one to be eligible to enroll for this program, he/she must have a mean grade of B in KCSE, have scored a B- in cluster one subjects which are; Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. 

In addition, one must have attained a C+ in cluster two subjects which are; English, Kiswahili and a C in cluster three subjects which are; either History, Christian Religious Education or Geography.

2. Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT)

A bachelor’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Science In this institution takes 4 years to complete. To enroll, one must have a mean grade of B in KCSE, a B- in cluster one subjects, a C+ in cluster two subjects and a C in cluster three subjects.

The public institution is located in Juja, Kiambu County. Apart from degree, the institution also offers a higher diploma in medical laboratory science.

3. The Technical University of Mombasa (TUM).

TUM offers a degree and Diploma in medical laboratory science. The requirements for admission into a degree program include a mean grade of B at KCSE.

In addition to that, one must have scored B- in cluster one subjects, a C+ in cluster two subjects, and a C in cluster three subjects.

The institution is located near Tudor, just 20 kilometers from Mombasa town. The program takes a period of four years to complete.

4. Mount Kenya University (MKU).

The institution, which is located in Thika, Kiambu County, offers degree and diploma programs in Medical Laboratory Science.

The requirements needed are as follows; a mean grade of B in KCSE, a B- in cluster one subjects, a C+ in cluster two subjects, and a C in cluster three subjects.

5. University of East Africa Baraton

The institution offers a degree in Medical Laboratory Science, which takes a period of four years to complete.

The entry requirements before taking the course is a mean grade of B in KCSE, a B- in cluster one subject, a C+ in cluster two subjects, and a C in cluster three subjects.

The public institution is located in Baraton, about 30 kilometers from Eldoret town. It attracts a wide range of students from East Africa which promotes diversity in education.

6. Masinde Muliro University (MMU).

The university offers a Bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory science, which takes a period of four years.

The course requires the student to have scored a mean grade of B in KCSE, a B- in cluster one subject, a C+ in cluster two subjects, and a C in cluster three subjects. It takes approximately Ksh 52,000 per semester to pursue this course at MMU.

7. Tracom College 

The private college is located in Nakuru County. It offers a diploma in Medical Laboratory Science, a course which takes two years to complete.

To enroll for the program, one must have a mean grade of C in KCSE, at least a C in cluster 1 subjects, a C in cluster two subjects and a minimum of C- in cluster three subjects.

8. Thika School of Medical and Health Sciences, Kiambu.

The institution, which is located in Thika, offers a diploma in Medical laboratory science.
