Didmus Wekesa Barasa Mutua is a Kenyan politician and lawmaker currently serving as the MP for Kimilili Constituency in Bungoma County.

He has been in the spotlight on several occasions with the most significant one being the time he slapped a contractor and musician Stephen Masinde Alias Steve Kay following a payment dispute. He was later arrested and charged with assault, and released on bond.

Didmus Barasa was born and raised in Bungoma County, western Kenya. He is a Kenyan by nationality and a Luhya by tribe. He is in his 40s as of 2022.

Didmus attended Kimilili Secondary School and proceeded to Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical & Electronic Engineering.

He then furthered his studies at Australia’s University of Queensland where he enrolled for a graduate degree in Occupational, Health, Security, and Safety. He also pursued a graduate diploma in Security Systems Audit program at the University of Sydney in Australia and graduated in 2009.

Didmus Barasa Career Journey

Didmus Barasa first worked as a captain for the Technical Wing at the Kenya Armed Forces.

He later worked for an Australian firm called Shell Company holding a managerial position.

In 2012, he took a role as a Regional manager for qhse EA, a logistics company in East Africa where he was in charge of logistics in a number of countries including Kenya, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Uganda, Tanzania, and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

In 2017, Didmus decided to cast his stake into the national politics. He vied for the Kimilili Constituency Member of Parliament and won. He was subsequently absorbed into the national assembly the same year.

He was recently aligned to Tangatanga, a political denomination associated with the deputy president William Ruto but has since stopped associating with it. He was a die hard supporter of William Ruto’s 2022 presidential bid but he recently announced halting Tangatanga politics to concentrate on personal affairs.
