Amin Mohamed Ibrahim is the head of Kenya’s Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) who took the helm from George Kinoti. Amin was appointed in that position by H.E President William Ruto on 14thof October 2022.
His appointment came after the previous DCI boss, George Kinoti resigned from office due to personal reasons. The Wajir native has vast experience in criminal matters having served in the National Police Service for over three decades.

Amin Mohamed was born in 1964 in Wajir County and he is of Somali Origin.
Amid Mohamed Ibrahim’s Education Level
Though much is not known about his primary and high school level education, Amid attended Egerton University where he pursued a certificate in Ethics, Governance, and Economic Crimes in 2003.
He later pursued Diploma in International Studies at the University of Nairobi in 2006. In 2008 and he went back to Egerton University where he pursued a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology and Security Studies, graduating with First Class Honors.
Currently, he is still at Egerton University pursuing a Masters degree in Criminology and Security Management.
Career
Amin found his way to the Kenyan National Police Service (NPS) in 1989, he went on and graduated from Kiganjo Police Training College the same year. After graduating he was deployed to Bungoma County where he was attached to the crime branch.
He was later moved to Nairobi and he was attached at Pangani Police Station before being transferred to Kasarani Police Station, still serving in the crime branch department.
In 2002, he served at the now-defunct Anti-Corruption Police Unit as a DCIO, serving in different locations like Kilindini, Thika, Mandera, and Lang’ata. Additionally, the new DCI gaffer also served as the head of the banking fraud unit at Central Bank.
On top of that, prior to becoming the head of DCI, Amin served as the head of DCI in Rift Valley, Central Kenya as well as Western. Furthermore, he also served as the head of Small Arms and Light Weapons. In 2020, he was appointed to serve as the director of IAU where he performed excellently.
Cases
Being appointed to a top-notch investigation seat, Amin must have worked on different high-profile cases. One of the highly profiled cases, Amin handled was the case against former Deputy Chief Justice Nancy Baraza versus Rebecca Kerubo.
On top of that, he also investigated and prosecuted the murder of the late Bishop Luigi Locati who serves at Isiolo Diocese. Though the case is still in court, Amin managed to charge one Catholic Priest alongside five others.
